We meticulously orchestrated an exhibition to commemorate the first anniversary of Bvlgari Hotel in Beijing. Our journey commenced by delving into the brand's rich history, rooted in its silversmith founder's legacy. However, our focus soon pivoted to encapsulate three core principles: the art of handcrafts, the essence of craftsmanship, and the preservation of cultural heritage. We held these values in equal regard to the Bvlgari legacy itself. Consequently, we embarked on a captivating exploration of Chinese handicrafts, intertwined with a unique fusion with a book profiling 108 artisans from across China.
To showcase these traditional artforms, we embraced contemporary presentation techniques. Take, for instance, the exhibit featuring a meticulously crafted jade snuff bottle adorned with a butterfly motif. Our aim was to draw the audience's attention to the exquisite detailing. Therefore, we placed the snuff bottles within sizable black boxes, each punctuated with tiny, 1 cm diameter viewing apertures. This approach starkly contrasted with the conventional display of traditional artworks, offering a novel and surprising perspective, enriching the audience's interaction with these masterpieces.
Within this exhibition, we meticulously selected nine handicraft artists, each representing the pinnacle of their respective artistic domains in China. These artisans not only exemplified excellence in their craft but also embodied the spirit of passing down their treasured skills through generations, ensuring the continuity of their art form for years to come.
